I once tried to self spank to the point of bruising, for some ungodly reason. I didn't get any bruises but here's what went into it:
125+ with an inch thick ruler.
100+ with a clothes hanger.
50+ with a thin paddle.
25 with a belt.
and a few with an electrical cord.
No bruises, but a few welts, and it was hard to sit.

Wow, at least you got good excercise. My arms are weak and so I can't spank myself that many times. I love the idea of it being hard to sit, as I've never been spanked that hard. Though getting caned hurt and it hurt sitting down the next day.

Yes, I have been on both ends of this. Years ago I was spanked so soundly that my bottom was bruised and later spanked again over this. I have never spanked anyone that far... But I certainly have been spanked that far.

I usually let my spanker decide how far they wanna go. Most usually smack until I have a neat red tint to my butt with a little bit of sting, but there have been a couple that just keep going until they break skin. And, depending on the implement used, that could mean that my bottom is black and blue. Those sessions hurt sooo much, but usually that tapers off closer to the end when my nerves just decide to take the rest of the day off and I get leather-butt syndrome where my butt just goes numb for the rest of the spanking...

The later part of the spanking really isn't so bad since I pretty much now have a numb shield stopping the barrage of smacks from hurting so much, what's worse is what happens afterwards. Of course sitting stings, and getting into the shower in the morning is usually a pretty good reminder of your spanking, but one thing that most spankees neglect to warn people about is just how much it makes your butt itch. It itches horribly! Like getting 1000 little mosquito bites all over your bottom, and you notice it much more with contact. A couple times I've had very slight bleeding on my behind, although I don't like that happening--but while those were fairly emphatic paddlings from my darling wife, I've endured more intensive ones without my skin being broken.

I did end up with bluish bruising from one quite extensive OTK spanking with a wooden hairbrush, although it was only on one buttcheek (the left one IIRC), and it hadn't been smacked any longer or harder than its counterpart, which was merely a moderate magenta in color--nor did the mildly bruised cheek hurt any more (immediately or for the next couple days) than the right one.

So AFAIC it's hard to determine what will or won't cause slight bleeding or mild bruising--although IME (very limited) using a hard, flat implement with a small striking surface relative to its weight could result in bruising... --C.K.
