[ SpanQuestDX ] - SpanQuest enhancement/continuation

Sorry for the delay, folks. Here's v1.5.1 with hopefully all the reported bugs fixed! I really appreciate people reporting these; a huge part of feeling happy to have this project finally "released" is that it is far too easy to miss things when you are the developer. Players find stuff much faster and easier, and having everyone working on it makes it so much easier to find and fix glitches.

I'll update the first post, but here's the new link:
Download SpanQuestDX v1.5.1

This version is packed as an "installer" this time (as many RPG Maker games are often distributed, if you've ever seen that "blue cube" icon), but can easily be extracted like the last one as if a compressed archive (with WinRAR, etc.). Otherwise, unzip it and double-click to install.

While I try to not break old savegames, I can't promise games in progress will work 100%, as some changes and fixes may cause issues.

Note that I'll usually leave the previous version uploaded and linked, unless there is something seriously wrong with it, because I know from experience that if someone takes down the old version of something, the new one is certain to have something game-breaking and leave everyone unable to play at all! At least this way, if an update ever breaks things totally, you'll still be able to roll back to the previous version (something modern devs, thanks to Steam, iOS, etc. don't seem to care about anymore!).

If you want to know what's changed, see the "Readme-DX.txt" file included; it is very detailed, and will be updated with every release. There's also a new optional mod included, which is explained therein as well.

I'll reply in more detail tomorrow, hopefully, but for now... enjoy the update! I'm sure there will be bugs to find still, sadly, but this should be a step closer to reducing them all. Once all the major bugs have been found and fixed (i.e. the game as it stands can have every quest played in every way without a major bug), I will move on to adding the planned major additional material, and may even do so via a few polls to see what I work on first (I kind of wish there was a way to have a sub-forum for this game somewhere, as I'd love to have separate threads for suggestions, bug reports, mods and future content).

I need to get some sleep now, as it's been a big two days of fixing stuff (and it's very hot here in Australia right now!), but I want to say a huge thanks for all the feedback and comments here, not just the bug reports (which, as I said, are vital) but the great ideas and suggestions for new additions too. I fully hope to continue to expand this project to add more brand new areas to the game (do you like pirates? ), but also to continue to (as has been noted by many people) expand the existing content with new scenes and follow up stuff that is hinted at but not actually continued in the original. Maybe even enough for a full "Day 2"!

Please keep the suggestions and ideas coming, it's great reading them and many honestly touch on things I've either already considered (see that readme file if you don't mind spoilers) or really like the sound of! You can also always email or PM me if you have longer suggestions or feedback or would rather do so privately.

Apologies to those I still owe emails/replies to! I will be in touch soon, just need to recover a bit!

One last thing: if you like my work on this project, please check out my blog and leave comments on anything you like; no piece there is "too old" to comment on, and I read every single comment. Still the bug with Claire cornertime text looping when you talk to her after Cosmina spanks you and you have Mom letter/mansion key. It loops in the 2nd phase of talking when your asking about Mr. Scabbers (Nice Harry Potter egg) etc... Just FYI... Will go from last save before that and see if anything else is buggy for ya. Sophie Library Steal Book no longer exists, and was buggy before, but is just gone now. As is the entire Ghost Quest for Sophie.... Possibly something got changed in the eventing stage?

Can't confirm that. Worked fine for me in the last release and still works in this one.
Did you talk to the guy in the cost town before? As I see it the "steal event"(and the ghost quest) only spawns after you talked to him.

Two non related bugs I found:
The Rose Brooch spanking from the mayors secretary in red vally goes into a constant loop, as does the scene with the smith in frostpoint when you ask her to spank you.

But all in all I really like the mod.

Yeah I am sure. Talked to masked man. Stole book.. Sophie now instead of spanking you is locked into asking why you are back, bu you can never leave as she tells you get over her knee. So its a bugged out scene. Will try just taking book and avoiding Sophie and see where that leads... Still good for Banjo to know of the bugs. My own mods of this game drive me nuts trying to polish it up lol... Only things I seem to get right is making the spankings more severe by dialog, length, and touches of event code.... One day hop to learn from this and make my own full game actually work.

I had trouble replicating the Sophie bug, but discovered the following causes it:
1) Have the Sleight of Hand skill.
2) Steal the Revelations of Gla'aki successfully.
3) Talk to Sophie (I'd never done this, just left or got caught stealing!).
4) Sophie spots the book in your hand and sits down to spank you.
5) When you go to her to be spanked, she just asks "Why are you back?"

I checked and this bug was present in the original version of the game too! It seems that this specific spanking wasn't written, but it should be the same as the one you get when you fail to steal the book, so I will hook that one in to fix this bug.

However, I had no trouble triggering the quest to find the book (from shady guy in Coral Coast, on DX Mode). The steal option does only show up once I've talked to him, however. Can others confirm this works/doesn't?

Fixed the mayor's secretary bug (and a couple of others related to her that I found too). Also fixed Rose and tidied up her movements too. Thanks!

Lockpicking is learned from a book currently (there will be another way eventually) but

 

but you need to do the post office missions to get Sophie to sell it (or steal her package).

Contains bug fixes, tweaks and some new portraits/sprites for future character development.

Been working on this all day... time for a break! Will try to get to replying to everyone's awesome non-bug (suggestions, requests, etc.) feedback tonight or tomorrow.

I started work on v1.5.3 today that adds an alternate way of resolving the Canute-Gudrid feud (i.e. a way to not spank Gudrid)!

However, while implementing this, I noticed two bugs existing:
* If you exit the lumber storage shed in the afternoon via the north door, you get warped to the frozen grotto (WTF?!).
* If you walk in on Gudrid spanking Canute at the lumber mill the first time, and enter via the "back" rather than "front" door, your character gets "stuck" on a broom!

Both bugs are already fixed for the next update.
