"Um... embarrassing?" She looks confused at him.

Naomi doesn't look confused at all. She has a good idea what he is about to do but her voice is at least as calm as his. "Kids, yes." She simply agrees and looks at him. She also knows a kid when she sees one and she knows a man when she sees one. Her trainer is a man. Her father is a man. In this room in none.

"Oh. I can hold my tongue. You said there is no need for us to hold back. You remember? I wanted to know if you are honest about this." She shrugs "You said we have no reason to lie but it seems we have good reasons not to tell the truth. I didn't accuse you, you did it yourself. You said you don't give a damn about us. You do this because you didn't have help when you were younger - but this has nothing to do with me. It is not my fault. It is no reason to punish me because of it. It is your problem, not mine. That's all."

Her voice is still calm and her face emotionless but inside it looks different. He is probably the worst guy they could have get. Whatever bothers him or went wrong in his live, it must have been quite bad if he had to raise his siblings and it seems he found a way to compensate it. Unfortunately. Damn, why has it always to be her? Was her day not bad enough? Has she done something to insult the Kami? She sighs.

The man merely smiled again. He leaned back and brushed some hair our of his face.

"Goodness... It doesn't take much to bring something out in you two, does it? Also, I'm afraid you misheard me. I DO give a damn about you. I do care. That's what I said," the man tapped a foot thoughtfully. "You have no reason to lie, but I wonder if you would have done that if I had just asked...? I guess it doesn't matter now, since I'm starting to understand now anyway. I don't recall saying my hardship anything to do with you....I was establishing an empathetic connection. I understand things are not always so simple. However..." he gave Naomi in particular a very interested look. "...Your reaction and assumptions are very informative. You currently think I'm the worst senior you could have gotten."

"And you currently think, you are the best senior I could have gotten." Naomi smiles back. "Also a very informative assumption. No. I heard you very well. I thought, 'you give a damn' means that you don't care. I am afraid, I didn't learn all English phrases while I was in the US. My apologies. You said you do 'this' - punishing us - because you had no help when you were young. You punish girls because of what happened to you in the past. Since I am one of these girls, I'd say it has to do with me.
Oh, and you were not establishing an empathetic connection. If you want to establish such a connection then you show interest and compassion. What you do is judging us and talking about yourself."

"NAOMI!" Nastia interrupts Naomi and smiles apologizing at Kouken. "She doesn't mean it, really, she sometimes simply is like that. I am sure, you have the best intentions. Lets just try to get along, OK?"


((Damn. There is a German phrase: "I give a dirt about it." Which means, I don't care at all. Since a "damn" is something negative I thought it means the same. ^^' ))

The man gave them both a completely blank expression, then turned to look out the window. He stood up and pace over, staring over the city. After a quiet moment he cleared his throat. "Then I'm sorry for lying to you. I try to get people to show their true feelings immediately...but I'll stop the act now, since I think I'm just going to hurt you if I keep it up."

Kouken looked back at them which much calmer eyes, more natural. "...I'm aware this situation is bothering you. I went through the same motions...So...how do you actually feel about this? Me looking out for you? The fact that the teachers thought this was needed? And please, answer me...honestly. I think we've established there's no point lying here,"

He gave them a contemplative look. He wondered just how much he was messing with the girls...he was clearly getting a lot of info out of them, and whether they realized it or not, he was starting to get a better grip on their situations. But he wanted to here what they had to say.

"Naomi...Do you think you deserve what's happening to you?"

Naomi shakes her head. "You just said you were lying to us and then you say we established that there's no point in lying here? I show my true feelings to my friends and my family - sometimes. I don't like you try to manipulate me into showing them to you, I think it is impolite, but... you are the older one, Sempai. I respect my teachers. I respect their decision. If they think this is necessary and useful for me then I accept this. I respect my older schoolmates, if they don't do something to loose this respect. That - of course - doesn't mean I like them." Or trust them. She won't tell someone her true feelings so easily who can punish her if he doesn't like what he hears. This guy is confusing so she will be careful.

She tilts her head. "No. I don't deserve what's happening to me." Honestly enough.

You could become an actor. Don't be such a killjoy, Naomi. You could smile once in a while, that was a clever trick. How do I feel about it? Well, I don't think I need someone to look out for me. I am sixteen you know." That can't be mentioned often enough. "But after all it's a tradition and you are older, two years I think, and a nice and clever guy, so it's OK I suppose." She grins. "You know how teachers are. Maybe we can go to dinner together after school? What'ya say?" This will hopefully break the ice.

The boy gave them both a very thorough look, and gave a gentle smile. "...I think I would like that," he answered to Nastia's offer. He was thinking this offer would come up from her at some point, but not this fast. It was just the kind of thing she would do. But given the way Nastia was looking at him, he figured she'd want to exclude Naomi...and he wasn't sure Naomi was going to consent.

"I think...or rather, already know, you're both very clever people. And you seem kind. So...sure, I'd like to hang out with you and just...talk about all this," the man said, going to sit back down. He wrote something down in his notebook thoughtfully and put it in his pocket again. "But just to make it clear, I'd like to meet in a more private place afterward. Such as one of our homes," he said with a relaxed expression. It was fairly clear to him both these girl's needed a short spell over his lap, not that he was going to convey that yet. He had found a natural way for the other girls he had previously cared for to accept his authority, and it was usually in the first day or two of knowing eachother.

"Is all that okay with both of you?"

"Cool." Nastia nods and smiles at him. She wasn't sure if he would accept, he said some unfriendly things, but he did. Nastia did not want to exclude Naomi she simply doesn't care if she joins but she assumes that Kouken would want to date her alone. Without the younger girl. And why would Naomi would want to join? Kouken seems not to be her type and Naomi and boys, well that's another story.

Indeed. Naomi has no interest to meet that guy, that can just mean trouble. His flattery doesn't impress her at all. He doesn't know if they are very clever, he knows nothing about them and as he admitted himself he simply says what it useful for his purposes. Or to put it simple, he lies if it seems useful.
"No, it is not. I have no interest to meet you in private, sempai. I am sorry. So if I have a choice in this, the answer is no." She says not unfriendly but cool. She has not forgotten about the punishment, and maybe it would have been more clever to agree to everything until it's over - but this is not her style. It would mean she is afraid of him. As she knows, if a guy thinks you are afraid, things just get worse and it's also a question of honor.

Nastia has no such problems. "All the better. Then it is just us two." She smiles brightly. "I am looking forward to it. Are we done here, then?" One day she will teach Naomi that friendliness pays, but not today.

The young man sighed at Naomi's rejection, and was slightly bemused and Nastia's happiness at being alone with him. He was flattered by the interest, but it wasn't going to be that simple. Naomi was going to be very difficult...but he was aware that was probably why she was assigned to him. She was clearly intelligent...though not very calculating. She was too blunt. But at the moment, that was good thing. The girl had nothing to hide.

"Well, then my only requirement is I walk you home then, Naomi-san," he said, looking outside again. The sun was setting already. "I won't force you to stay with us, but I'm getting you home safe," he said politely, but somewhat firmly. Just firm enough to make it clear this wasn't up for discussion. The girl was clearly very tough, but Kouken didn't like taking risks when he's trusted with people's safety. "Thanks for the invite, Nastia."

She says in the same polite but firm tone. If he once starts with this he will soon walk her to the toilet also. You never know what may lurk in the girls bathroom. "I will find someone else to bring me home safely. My uncle will come and drive me home when I call him."

Nastia fortunately can't read Kouken's thoughts and follows amused the verbal quarrel. He really is somewhat pushy. She has to be careful, that he doesn't get her invitation wrong, but she is confident she can deal with him. She hums a little tune and watches Kouken. She wonders why he was taken to take care of them, probably the director likes him because his father spent money for the school or something like that.

"Hmph, very well then. We'll find some other time then, I suppose, if the fates allow." he said in a falsely dramatic tone. "In any case, I'd still like to meet up at some point. It can be a place of your choosing if you wish," he stated calmly. He then sat back down and leaned forward, stretching out his sore neck. "But for the record, the meeting itself isn't really...optional for any of us," he clarified.

"And on that note," he shift in his chair and leaned back. "I'm contemplating whether or not to delay the punishment...I'd like to know more of the whole story before I take action...but it's getting a bit late. What do you think?" he asked with a mysterious smile. "Would you prefer to be punished now, or should I wait to get the whole story next time we meet?"

He was rather curious as to the response of the girls...even if it was ultimately up to him whether or not they'd be punished right now.

"Sure, Kouken-sempai." Naomi nods. Not optional for any of them, except of him. As usual. She is not sure how to deal with his offer. It would be better to be over with it but a delayed punishment might be a prevented punishment. So she answers with: "Next time."

Nastia more or less thinks the same. "If we anyway meet again we can discuss it then. I am looking forward to meet you again." Nastia's voice and expression is as friendly as Naomi is cool.

The young Japanese girl stands up and bows. "Sayonara, Kouken-sempai."
