Alex nodded at him when he spoke, hoping that he was right and something good would come out of all of this. She finished her food at that point and pushed her tray aside enough to rest her arms on the table and her head on her arms, tired already and forgetting her table manners since she didn't think they counted when they were in a library and it was just her and icaret.

She took the book when he handed it to her, being careful with it once she found out that it was rare and she almost didn't want to touch it for fear of somehow damaging something so valuable. "Whats it about?" She asked, flipping it open to the table of contents and skimming those as she waited for him to answer, she was assuming it was something to do with law but she was wondering more specifically

Alex was thinking that this was going to be a very boring book when he explained what it was going to be about, but then he got to that bit at the end and it got a startled look out of her. "There are laws telling the King what to do?" She asked, surprised that he had any laws laying out the responsibilities that he had to the great houses.

"Yes there are, what you have to realize is that the great houses are governed by choice." Icaret said "At the end of the First Dragon War three of the high lords were each offered the crown, Rennot of Denthar was the one who said yes."

Alex was once again confused by what he was saying and she looked away from perusing the book to give him a look that clearly showed it. "So he was elected? Or he only stays king because the great houses support him?" She asked, trying to understand but she had little knowledge about this sort of thing so it was difficult for her.
