Arthur knew this journey back was going to be hell for Merlin's sore bottom but there wasn't much he could do about that. He wasn't about to walk back when they had two perfectly good horses to take them back to Camelot. Besides he figured riding on a sore bum would make Merlin remember the lesson even more, and not wander off again when Arthur told him to stay close. He would be keeping a better eye on the dark haired boy for a while now because his trust in him had broken a little.
Eventually, Arthur could see Camelot in the Horizon and he kicked his Horse into a faster Gallop through the forest. He pulled his steed to a stop when he became face to face with his irate Father. "Father?" Arthur quickly dismounted from his Horse and tried to ignore the sinking feeling of being in trouble. "Did something happen, Father?" he asked.

"You could say that," Uther replied with his mouth drawn into a thin line. "For instance, I do recall telling you that the Druid resting grounds is off limits."
He stared in displeasure at his son. He held Arthur more dear than anything, for the past twenty years ever since the great purge, there was absolutely nothing he treasured more than his son.
But for as much as he may love his only child, he also disdained disobedience.
"So would you mind telling me why you went there in the first place," he asked Arthur and in the next beat ordered his son's incompetent manservant to keep his mouth shut.

Arthur frowned a little in confusion when his Father said he could say that. His blue eyes then widened slightly before he dropped his head in shame. "I..." he wouldn't dare lie to his Father, he knew that was the one thing his Father hated more than disobedience. "Yes sir you did." he answered and took a deep breath, sort of wishing Merlin wasn't there right now, being in trouble was never pleasant and even less so with an audience. "I'm sorry Father...I thought that the danger was merely myth...legend." he told him truthfully.
When asked why he had gone there, the Prince thought his answer over in his head. "Honestly father...I quite ...fancied the idea of seeing if the legends were true or merely an old peasants tale..." he answered, knowing his Father wouldn't like that answer but it was at least the truth.

When told that Arthur had only wanted to quench his curiosity, the king's gaze softened somewhat before they hardened once more.
"Be it a true or myth, that place is not safe for you," Uther stated in a commanding tone of voice that left no room for objections.
"There is a good reason the Druids are no friend of Camelot," he added, a line he'd told his son countless of times before.
Uther glanced at the manservant before briskly telling him to leave the king and his son on their own.
Merlin didn't feel all too comfortable of leaving Arthur with his father, but what choice did he have?
He just hoped Uther wouldn't be too hard on his son, though knowing the king it was almost a waste of time to hope for anything.
Once the manservant had scurried off, Uther looked back at his son with eyes shining of disappointment.

Arthur slowly nodded his head, he had hoped he could go and check the place out before his Father even noticed he was missing, that didn't happen however. "I know sir..." he answered feeling around ten years old in that moment, he usually felt that way when he was in trouble with his Father, the King of Camelot. "Yes Father, I know but there was nothing there when Merlin and I arrived." he told the man, in hopes of making him sort of less worried for what may have happened. "I ensured so before we dismounted and I had my sword with me."
He watched Merlin scurry away and then winced when he saw that disappointed look in his Father's eyes. "I'm sorry I disobeyed you Father...I surrender myself for disciplinary action." he told him nobly.

"But there could have been something there!" Uther drew a deep breath, trying to keep his temper under control.
"I don't care if you had your sword with you, it can't protect you from the evil surrounding that place." His worry and paranoia was slowly getting the better of him.
Hearing Arthur's show of surrendering at his mercy, it served to save the boy from the sting of a switch, but not from the belt.
"I want you to turn around and drop your pants and britches." The king was under the impression that having to bare himself without his father's assistance was far more humiliating for the twenty year old.
"Stand by the wall and bend down," he ordered his son as his hands moved to remove his belt.

Arthur nodded his head, not wanting to anger his Father further because he knew it would not end well for him or his backside. "Yes sir, I'm sorry sir." he answered before then surrendering himself for disciplinary action like any good Prince and Son would. Arthur had a tremendous amount of respect for his Father, and through that respect he was willing to accept the consequences for his actions. When ordered to drop his pants and britches, he paused and swallowed.
He wished they were doing this behind closed doors or even in the Castle walls but that didn't seem like an option. He lowered his trousers and britches before then placing his hands on the wall, exposing his bottom perfectly for his Father's belt. He hated that belt.

Uther watched as his son did as told, lowering his pants and britches before leaning onto the wall of the citadel.
It might not have been an ideal place to reprimand Arthur as it was out in the open and someone could walk in on them at any time, but the king was too angry to care.
He folded the belt once, shortening the length before he took a few steps closer, standing right beside Arthur.
Without many lecturing words, Uther then proceeded to smack the exposed bottom with loud cracking sounds.
The king had enough experience with the belt to know when to stop as he did not want to draw blood, but he wouldn't cease striking the midsection and upper part of his son's thighs until they were a deep shade of red.
Soon enough, his arm started cramping up and the king took a final swipe at the princely backside before he let his arm fall to the side to rest and he breathed heavily.
Having to lecture Arthur in this manner never felt easy on his heart, but between the possibility of losing his son altogether, it was a lesser evil.

Arthur knew his Father was furious with him, and he always hated disappointing him. The Prince put his hands on the wall and pushed his bottom out for the belt. A good Prince always accepted his punishment. He grit his teeth as the belt repeatedly came down across his bottom, under curves and thighs, it hurt so much. It was almost as bad as a switch but still enough to get the Prince yelping a little toward the end of his punishment. He hung his head when Uther dropped his arm, and cried. He didn't sob but tears fell fast down his face.
His backside felt like it was on fire, it was awful. "I-I'm..sorry F-Father..."

For most part of his punishment, Arthur stayed silent. It wasn't until near the end that the prince yelped lowly. Uther didn't blame the lad for that, he knew very well what a belting felt like.
When his son apologized, most of the kinf's anger washed off and he took a hold of Arthur's shoulder.
Turning the boy around to face him, Uther let the belt fall to the floor and put his arms around Arthur's shoulder, pressing the boy close to him.
"You're forgiven now," he said, rubbing his boy's back.
"But I warn you, don't you ever scare me like that again."
What the consequences for doing that, the king never said, he figured Arthur's imagination would do the trick.
Eventually, the king let go if his son, brushing away the tears of his son's face.
"You may go to your quarters now, son," Uther said, giving Arthur a silent permission to redress.
