The trouble with Thunderkittens

As the autumn sun settled itself at its' pique above the trees, the young Thunderkitten found herself keeping in more and more to the shadows, beneath the thickened mass of leaves still bunched tightly from the last rememnants of summer. Mindful to keep her steps as light as she possibly could against the branch, WilyKit drew in a deep breath and held it apprehensively; one branch over her twin brother settled, blissfully unaware that their game of tree-top hide and seek had taken an exciting turn; she held herself for three. Two. One moment; and "Gotcha!" she laughed and pounced with arms outstretched, intending to catch WilyKat by surprise.

Another monitor beeped at the sight of another falling branch; adding the ever-growing tally of unusually uninteresting sights to be monitored. As he took feint notice of the occurance out of sheer habit, the young lord Lion-O settled back in the Thundertank's chair with a quiet sigh "I can't believe this Snarf," he started as his hands came up to cradle his head "I have a two ton smorgesboard of untapped tech all to myself, all to my own disposal...and I'm bored." he glanced back to his faithful companion with an almost helpless expression "You'd think with the others gone and the kittens playing it'd be a welcome releif but...man! Someone do something!" he straightened himself up, shaking his head as a thought occurred amongst the griping "Speaking of which...." he turned his hand to tapping lightly on the keyboard infront of him, setting up the signal for the experimental signal on WilyKit and Kat's communicators "Better atleast have a look in, right?" while he'd promised them all that they were not there to babysit the two tag-along teammates; he knew it was probably a wise idea to atleast keep an eye out for them when they went off on their own, as any one teammate would do for another.

It had been Wilykats turn to hide and he had managed not to be caught for quite some time , longer than Kit he thought , but no one could tell for sure , their game had been going on for hours and they both had narrowly escaped when the other was about to catch them several times . No surprise that Lion-O was getting bored all by himself ... well , Snarf was still with him at least .

It took Wilykat too long that his sister was about to get him . In the last second he jumped , but forgot to look in which direction he had leaped .Almost he wouldn`t have been able to pull himself onto the next branch . But in mid fall he got a hold of a branch that looked thick enough to support this weight .

Sadly , Kat had overestimated its ability to endure his weight . Just after he stood up again , thinking that he was safe now and far from Kits reach , it broke and he fell about five metres to the ground .

At least he had been able to fall on the part of his body that was least likely to get hurt by such an accident , his butt . The young kitten bit his lip , trying not to cry out in pain .The fall hadn`t been so bad , but landing on ones behind after falling from such a height was still quite painful .

Kat jumped up and started rubbing his poor behind . "Ouch ...",he whined and grimaced in an almost comical way . Both his eyes were closed , but when he dared to open on of them he expected to see his sister laughing at him.

WilyKit gasped as her twin suddenly ducked out of her line of capture; having to scramble to regain her grip over the recently vacated branch before gravity had a chance to send her spiralling. She froze as her claws dug through the bark, sucking in one sharp breath before regaining herself long enough to turn and prepare one of the most poignant glares she'd ever given Kat in her life; the effort was abandoned as a sudden crunch swept her brother quite literally off his feet "WilyKat!" she scurried up towards the edge of the branch; snapping a hand out to try and reach for WilyKat's falling form, able do to little else except stare as the other kitten as he tumbled down towards the ground; the very second her twin brother halted, she had to clamp a hand up over her mouth as one relieved chortle caught in her breath. Kit didn't really take much notice of how he'd landed, really, until she began to carefully climb down from her perch to meet Kat down on the terrain "Kat, you ok?" a little giggle caught her tone as she slid from one branch down to the next.

With a few clicks of the console's keyboard, Lion-O had managed to trace the kitten's signal not too far down down the way, but he didn't get an exact image as such, more of a presentation of the area split between three screens "Hmm..." he grunted, having to enhance a few areas of the images a few times before a gentle rustling in one tree's branches tipped him off to where WilyKit appeared to be trying to sneak up on WilyKat. The young king couldn't help breathing a silent laugh as he leaned a forearm against the console, curious as to the outcome of this game. Concern crossed his brow as Kat sprang abruptly out of Kit's reach, his gaze instantly pulled to how the male twin seemed to be bobbing unsteadilly atop the thinned branch. He lurched from his seat the instant the branch snapped, watching in helpless wonder as the young kitten hurtled towards the ground in one horrifying display "Snarf watch the tank." he didn't have a single moment to spare; he sprang from the tank and started off into a sprint towards the co-ordinates that the screen had indicated "Kit! Kat!"

Kat was relieved when his twin didn`t start laughing right away . He quickly took his paws of his aching behind and smiled weakly . "Everything okay ... I landed just right .",he told her . Falling like that hurt like hell , but at least he was not injured .
Then suddenly he heard Lion-O`s voice loudly . Kat turned around , into the direction the voice came from . He did not know that Lion-O had observed their little game , so he expected that Lizard Men or something else was attacking them . But quickly he realized that if that would have been the case Lion-O would have brought the tank with him.Did he see him fall somehow ?
Suddenly the kitten became a bit angry . Kit and Kat knew how to look after themselves . The Lion prince should not be so concerned about their well being all the time . Didn`t the group only take the Kittens with them because they wouldn`t have to look after them like they would have if Kit and Kat were "normal children" ?

Kit gave off a little giggle as she landed just beside her poor brother "Sure ya did, and I'm queen of the elephants," she gently ribbed though turned her attention quick enough at the sound of their king's voice suddenly coming from just down the way; for a moment she had to do a double-take. Lion-O had always been friendly to them, sure, but as far as she could tell he'd never come looking for them when they'd dissappeared to play "Lion-O?" she did a quick little turn, wondering if they were just oblivious to some sort of danger before glancing back over at Kat with a confused blink "Is he calling us?"

Lion-O wasted no time in covering the short distance left between him and the two kittens; glowering down at the two with a mix of concern and forboding across his features "Kat; are you hurt?" his breathless tone was slightly sharp, though not enough to actively antagonise Kit or Kat; he just needed to get to the bottom of the situation as quickly as possible. He took a moment to quickly give Kat a glance-over, only satisfied once he didn't spy any visable injuries.

Kat glanced into Lion-O`s eyes . Somehow he didn`t like the expression on it . It remembered him of the twins parents , whenever the Kittens had done something wrong , which luckily for them , didn`t happen very often . Their family had been poor farmers and they had spent their time trying to help their family as much as they could most of the time . Which is why the two ran away after their father had died . They thought only then their mother would be able to feed the younger siblings of the two ... and , with a lot of luck , they might return rich one day .

"No , don`t worry ... I`ve managed not too land too hard ",this time he glanced at his sister , wondering if she would start to giggle again,"How do you know what happened ? Have you been watching us ?""

Kit glanced unsurely over to Kat, wondering if he had any clue how to gauge where Lion-O's tone seemed to be coming from; she didn't want to think of it as concerned, the young king had always been under the impression that they were taking care of themselves after all wasn't he? But she didn't have any other way of placing it, really. Luckilly her twin's question came as a welcome cue for distraction "Yeah Lion-O what gives? How did you know where to find us?"

Lion-O gave a very subtle sigh of relief at hearing Kat's assured answer; the last thing any of them needed was for something so unfortunate to afflict either of the kittens like that, but he chanelled the relief for the moment into crossing his hands over his chest "Your communicators," he started off, making sure to lead in to an air of authority "You two have the one's with the experimental tracking signal in them; I was able to get a video feed in the Thunder Tank." his brow creased slightly as he continued "And it's a good thing I did, too. Had that been any higher a fall, who knows what might've happened."

Kat glanced into Kits eyes , unsure what to think of Lion-O`s tone himself . He hiked his shoulders lightly , telling her that he didn`t know why the young king reacted this way . Sure , he has had an accident just now , but so far the Kittens always learned from mistakes like that on their own . Otherwise they wouldn`t have survived that long.

Kat grinned when Lion-O told him that a higher fall might have told him."Well , we were pretty much at the highest point , you can`t climb much higher on these trees ...besides it all was just bad luck . I even managed to almost stop my fall with a branch under me . ",he told him . Not the best reply ... he sounded quite careless . But the cocky kitten didn`t know better . He had already forgotten the aching in his behind and was ready for more mischief with his twin sister.
