A Vulcan's comeuppance - Ruby/Jade

"It is not what I need Captain but rather what I deserve..." Spock answered softly, "I do not desire to leave the Enterprise...the crew.....you." he sighed softly and let his tears soak Jim's trousers. "You are....my friend Jim...the way I have acted is unacceptable." he explained, getting off of his lap and wiping his tears. "I do not want....to disappoint you..however it seems to be the only thing.....I am capable of."

"Spock as far as I'm concerned you've already been giving the punishment you deserve," Jim started, attempting to offer some comfort as he stood to gently place a hand on top of his shoulder "And, to be honest Spock; I'm not interested in how many times you may disappoint me so long as I'm there to correct it. I know you're better than this behaviour and I'm determined to help you overcome it Spock,"

Spock sighed softly and left his tears to fall, he looked into the man's eyes and then nodded. "Thank you Captain, you have assisted me well." he said and then looked at the hand on his shoulder. "I shall put this behavior behind me...."

"I know you will Spock," Jim chuckled gently, reaching in to finally pull his friend into a comforting hug for a few moments.

Spock flinched for a moment before then returning the hug, wrapping his arms around the Captain and he managed a small smile. "Thank you, Jim."

Jim continued to hold Spock for a moment, before gently pulling back "Now, Mister Spock; In light of the circumstances I would strongly recommend you getting some sleep," a gentle grin came to his features as he pulled back from Spock "I don't suppose that'd go amiss?"

Spock smiled a little at that and nodded his head, "Yes Captain, I believe that is a good idea." he answered, climbing into the bed and laying down, "Goodnight, Captain." he said softly, his backside was tingling but it was sort of comforting.

"Goodnight Spock," Jim chuckled lightly as he made his way for the door, watching a moment as Spock climbed into bed before habitually switching off the light on his way out.

Spock was asleep in moments, the next morning, the Vulcan awoke early and left his quarters after dressing. He got to work completing all of the duties he'd not done the previous day, and then he got to work on some of the Captain's paper work so he would not have to do it. By the time the rest of the crew including the Captain got up for their duties, everything that needed to be done, was done. Spock let no one know he had done anything and he went to his station. "Good morning, Captain."

"Captain, all ze paper work, it iz finished....months and months of ze reports for ....zey are just done!" Chekov gasped.

Spock hadn't been the only one exhausted from the previous night's affair, though Jim had never been what one would call a morning person if they were to look closely enough then perhaps they would have noticed how heavy the captain's eyes had seemed from a night of rousing at every little grunt and groan that the enterprise had made the previous night; really the day before had just set him on edge.
"Morning Spock," he grinned, allowing himself to sink comfortably into the captain's chair and, hopefully, just rest his tired muscles for a few moments.
Chekov's sudden gasp had him wide awake however "What?" he had to see for himself--he scrolled frantically through his screen--blinking and re-blinking every time the green icon appeared next to each late report and overdue evaluation. Chekov was right, and Jim was confused "Well...that's...bordering on divine intervention," he had to glance warily around "Either that or we've been hiding half the cast of Harry Potter,"
It was an old joke based on very old literature, but he considering the obscure circumstance he didn't feel it to be totally out of place.
