A Vulcan's comeuppance - Ruby/Jade

"I do not understand, is this sarcasm?" Spock asked, frowning and looking at Bones with a confused expression. "Are you angry, I cannot quite tell?"

"Oh I'm past the point of anger Spock," Bones was close to seething, the disturbing swirls of hot pink probably the only thing keeping him levelled at the moment "Are you completely out of your Vulcan mind?!" He motioned to the mess infront of them "What...Why?!"

Spock frowned, "I do not see why, it is not your belongings that have been altered." he said and then shook his head, "I am not. I do not need to answer to you."

"I think you'd better!" McCoy reflexively snapped, having to pull himself back in for a moment and regain his calm before tensely "That is, unless you want to answer to Jim directly?" the doctor studied the Vulcan for a moment "I doubt, afterall, he'd be impressed with being called away from the bridge for...well..." he motioned again to the mess before them.

Spock huffed and simply looked at Bones, with that smug look on his face before then turning, and simply leaving the room. He walked along down the corridor to the bridge and stood at the Captain's side. "Are we ready to warp, Captain?" he asked.

McCoy would have balked again had the second wave of muted shock not flown over him so suddenly; the scurrility of the situation made the old doctor feel as if he'd just wandered into some sort of parallel-universe's suicide mission. Infact, had he not been standing at the crime-scene he would have stopped to consider that; but for now he concentrated on keeping up with Spock's swift stride and made his way breathlessly into the bridge

"Affirmative--prepare to enter warp factor five, mister Sulu." Jim coolly ordered; with how smoothly the bridge had been running this morning, the Captain would have never suspected anything to be amiss had the sound of the main door sliding open not earned a glance. He took an immediate double take "Everything alright Bones?" he almost couldn't believe to ask, the doctor looked unusually...panicked..."You look as if you've just run a mile...?"

Glancing momentarily to Bones, the Vulcan then diverted his attention back to his station, eventually walking over there and staying as far away from the medical man as possible. Though he did make his own comment. "Indeed, perhaps you should rest, Doctor."

Bones made no comment in retaliation to Spock's, merely pursing his lips tightly to avoid a public incident on the bridge. What he did do, however, was lean in enough into Jim's ear to whisper a brief but specific statement.

"What?!" At once, the captain sprang from his chair to sprint down the hallway, disbelief screaming through his thoughts.

The Vulcan really didn't need to hear what Bones told Jim, it was pretty obvious. Spock watched Jim sprint off down to his quarters, and he took this time to sneak off the bridge, going to his own quarters and locking the door.

Mere moments after recovering from the shocking news; Jim found himself, trailed by Bones interestingly enough, once again marching up to his science officer's quarters to demand an explanation. As per Bones' advice--he didn't smack his fist against the doorway; instead he forced himself to take a deep breath and very gently rap his knuckles against the doorframe "Oh Spock?" he called, struggling to keep the irritation from his tone "May we come in?"
