A Vulcan's comeuppance - Ruby/Jade

Spock was quick to shoot up from Jim's lap and make it to the door, he almost had his freedom but then Jim grabbed his ear and that made the Vulcan whine in submission. "Let go, Captain." he hissed, having no choice but to go over to the bed with him and he frowned again when Jim said that he was very disappointed in him and something about disgrace. "Vulcans never disgrace themselves." he answered stubbornly and growled, "I do not appreciate being punished like a child, it is beneath me."

"And yet you continue to act like one! An overgrown child having a tantrum," By this point, Jim found himself well and truly exasperated with Spock's constant defiance; any progress they seemed to be touching on was promptly rebuked by the Vulcan in, what he guessed was, an act of pride. So as he turned his wayward officer back over his lap, Jim realised that desperate times called for desperate measures.

"Spock, I'll be perfectly honest with you--striking out against a senior officer in such a manner is a serious offence, court-martial worthy to be precise." Kirk told him; although the scold still lingered in his voice, there was now a definite sort of openness beginning to open that "But I refuse to put you through that humiliation, instead, I feel that something far more appropriate must be considered."

Spock sort of felt something crash around him when the Captain mentioned that striking out was a serious offense. "But..." he paused, unable to really say anything in response to that but then he was fully alert when Jim said that he wasn't going to do that, "Thank you Captain." he answered and gripped his leg, the same way he had done with Bones. Spock wasn't a bad crew member, he was good at his job and respectful most times with everyone but recently he'd been acting out. It would be a shame to just give up on him and kick him out of the crew for some easily corrected slip ups.

"What is it you propose...Captain?"

In return to the sensation of Spock gripping at his leg, Jim returned the gesture by running a hand consolingly over the centre of his crewmate's back, calming significantly in the process. Oh he knew how capable Spock was, he'd surely have proved it to someone long before they'd enlisted in Star-Fleet but it was because of that potential that Jim felt so passionately about curbing this behaviour before it could get any further out of hand.

The Captain glanced down at the question, momentarily savouring the refreshing change of term that the Vulcan had resumed in taking on before reaching over to pluck something from his bedside cabinet. Wordlessly, he presented before Spock the image of a flat-edged oak hairbrush
"This, Spock, is an antique from mid twentieth-century earth," he began to explain, turning the instrument over a few times so that he may have a better view of it "The main use for it is pretty self-explanatory, but I'm going to be using it to finish up the rest of your punishment." A sigh caught Jim's lips, he wasn't proud of having to resort to such drastic theatrics but he continued "And what you're going to do is explain to me exactly what you have done to earn such a punishment and the alternative ways you could have responded to the situation instead.
And when you have fully co-operated in learning your lesson, then we'll be done. Does that sound fair to you?"

Spock had a feeling this proposal was something that was not going to be pleasant but in light of being court marshaled, he would opt for anything, no matter how painful. The Vulcan's eyes widened a little at the hairbrush Jim showed him, he was mainly eyeing the flat surface part and he swallowed hard when the Captain mentioned he would be using that implement to aid his punishment. "....Yes Captain, that sounds ...fair." Spock had to force himself to answer that one, he did not want to feel that implement land across his sensitive backside, but there was nothing he could do.

"Please Captain...I am sorry..." he said softly, gripping his leg tighter.

"I believe you are Spock," Jim assured just as softly, continuing to gently rub the struggling officer's back in some sort of consolation; the grip that the Vulcan held across his leg may have seemed so small a deal to anyone else on the ship, but Jim understood enough about his friend to realise just how much of progress that one little movement showed "I really do, but now you have to prove it to me."

Before they could start, however, Jim had one final thing to do; upon bracing Spock once more across his lap he gripped hold of the elastic waistband of the boxer shorts and pulled them quickly down to his knees, finally uncovering the green-stained sight of Spock's bare backside.

"Spock," Jim finally spoke once he had steeled himself, wasting no time in bringing the brush down across his officer's tenderised rear "Can you identify what you have done to wind up in such a position?"

It would have not been an action Spock would have gone through with if he was across the lap of someone he didn't trust. He trusted the Captain and despite their disagreements, he trusted Doctor McCoy too. So he gripped the Captain's leg a little more securely, he didn't want this to happen but he was resigned because he knew he deserved it. He had been a colossal brat. "Captain...please..." he pleaded again but then whimpered when his boxers were pulled down to expose his greening bottom.

He assumed he had been bared so Jim could assess the damage being done, considering he was using an implement but he didn't ask for confirmation on that and instead squirmed a little and then gave a high pitch yelp when the brush made contact with his bottom. "I-I...." he felt tears prick his eyes quickly.

"I was rude and disrespectful to you Captain, unnecessarily...." Spock answered and breathed heavily. "And I was to abrupt with my conclusions.....plus I did not seek your approval when beaming us back to Enterprise.....OW!!! Please Captain, I'm sorry!!"

As Spock began to roll off each and every one of his offences, with the added bonus of thorough justifications that only a Vulcan could think to include, Jim found himself nodding both in approval and in sympathy for the tears he could hear lacing the officer's tone "Yes, that's right," he calmly confirmed over Spock's pleading, landing each smack with as much care as the last--succeeding in bringing out an even code of darkening green to the pigment of Spock's skin "Now can you explain what makes such actions unacceptable? And what would have been a more sensible solution to each, Spock?"

Spock was a little disheartened that his apologies hadn't stopped the punishment since that had been the case with Doctor McCoy. "Owww! Captain...please!" His tone took on a more desperate edge, the brush was unbearable and the Vulcan was quickly in tears, those salty beads dripping down his flushed green cheeks. "...I...." he paused and thought. "Because you are the Captain, and I should always show you the utmost respect." he bit his lip and thought again. "I should not have....gone to such conclusions because....my facts were false, and I was accusing you of something that was not so...."

He squirmed and sighed, "I should always make sure that orders are approved by you, the Captain.. Please sir....please...I am so very sorry....."

True to his word, as soon as Spock had worked through his lesson, Jim immediately set the brush back down on the bedside cabinet and released his distressed friend from the vice-like grip across his lap--leaning now only to touch his shoulder, his back, in an attempt to offer any sort of comfort that he could "It's alright Spock, it's alright..." the captain soothed softly, gazing down in a soft sort of concern "You've done well, you're forgiven,"

Quietly, Jim began to shift Spock's weight from across his lap and up enough so as to offer him the protective embrace of a rarely given but, what he guessed, was a sorely needed hug between a pair as close as brothers.
