Alchemy 101 (Little Sayuri)

A typical day for Roy Mustang was to just sit at hid comfy desk as his subordinates did the officer's paperwork, the manipulative alchemist sitting comfortably as he sat with a smug look on his face.

But this wasn't a typical day. This was a day where he was to be training. Training his apprentice, that is. The Flame Alchemist had a stone look as he waited for his trainee to step in to begin their lessons.

15 year old Rachel was nervous as she was walking through the large building. Today was her first lesson with her new mentor and she wasn't sure if she should be happy or sad about it.

She was choosen from over 200 people, that meant already something, and because her Mentor wasn't anybody, she was even more nervous. Roy Mustang, the man that she had a crush on would train her in alchemie, and she would do her best to please and satisfy him, she promised herself that she would do this at least. While she searched for his office, she thought about him and smiled.

He was a good looking man and a solider. Brave, maybe a bit stern but indeed that kind of man that she liked very much. "I hope he doesn't notice that...", she thought and blushed. Suddenly, the brunette woman stopped. His office. She took a deep breath and knocked, waiting for an answer.

Roy nodded as she came in, "Rachel, correct?" he asked her, "Nice of you to be joining my and I hope you will become a find alchemist." he said as he stood up from his desk and walked over to her, "Now then, do you have any prior knowledge on Alchemy?"

"Yes Sir", the girl smiled as he asked if her name was Rachel. She looked up at him with shining eyes as he spoke but shook her head at his question. "No, not really...I read a few books of course, for the basics, and it appeared that I am good with water and ice...but that's it so far...", she explained shyly.

(Water and Ice? A bit out of my element, but it isn't like we need another Flame Alchemist.) thought Roy as he nodded, "Lets start with something simple: create a transmutation circle." ordered Roy as he grabbed a piece of chalk and lead Rachel outside to the training grounds.

Rachel followed him thankfully and took the chalk from him. Quickly she created a transmutation circle, making sure that every little symbol looked perfect so that it would work. It wasn't important that the circle was pretty in the first case, but she drew a few before and so she was able to do it quickly and perfect. "Done", she announced happily and gave him the chalk back with a smile.

Roy inspected the circle, "Very well done." he smirked as he congratulated as he walked over as he grabbed a bucket of water before heading back, "Since you say your good with water and ice," he handed her the bucket, "Lets see what you can do."

Rachel nodded and took the bucket, setting it down on the circle. She knelt down and put her finger on the circle, closing her eyes. The bucket didn't do anything so far, but the circle started to glow slightly. After a moment, the water shot in the air and came down as snow. Unsure, the girl looked at her teacher.

Roy chuckled a bit as he clapped his hands, "Very impressive. I see you have a basic understanding of Alchemy." praised the state alchemist, "It appears I won't be wasting my time with you after all."

Rachel blushed slightly even if the last comment hurted a bit. But she smiled at her mentor and nodded. "Uhm...thank you Sir", she said politely. "So...what's next?", she asked shyly.
