Little Nothings //CleverFox//
It was days like these that Kelsey Winchester missed the sun. While she often said she liked rain, she didn't much like gray days. It's like a stereotypical scene of any dramatic book, or music video. A sad girl, eyes puffy from crying, leaning on her window sill and blandly looking out it as the rain falls.
The difference here, being, that Kelsey had done something... stupid. Something she hadn't done in a long time. Not because it was raining, no, but... she felt...
Like she was drowning. Like she was in a tunnel without light. Like she was being crushed. Her chest physically hurt. Her bones ached. Her head throbbed. She missed the days when she didn't have to worry--the days where she was with the man she loved, surrounded by friends, and away from schooling. Now, the girl had tried to be in college, but was feeling swamped with all of the homework. How was she ever going to get far in life? Her love was gone, and with it he snatched her heart. The only friend she had, she had to communicate virtually.
In a word--she was depressed. And depression leads to unsavory actions.
She thought she was going to cave in on herself. She... couldn't let that happen. So she got a crazy idea, achingly put pants on, and shuffled downstairs to see her father.
"Dad." The twenty three year old called to gain his attention. "I did somethin'... dumb... that you an' Dee an' Sammy ta never do again..."

John Winchester knew that there was something up with his little girl, he had noticed that she wasn't her usual self but he wasn't quite sure how to deal with that. Honestly he wasn't the best at dealing with emotions but he did honestly try when it came to his children. Sure the three of them might argue that fact with him but he honestly tried.
He was just really bad at it.
The man was reading an old text when he heard the sound of his daughter coming downstairs and then her voice calling out to him. Setting the book aside he turned to look at his daughter, looking at her when she told him that she had done something that was dumb.
That of course set off warning bells in his mind.
Motioning for her to come closer he asked, in a concerned tone of voice, "What did you do Kelsey?"

Kelsey knew that her father tried hard for all of them. It was difficult enough to be a single father, let alone to three difficult kids, and try to protect them from literal monsters as well. He seemed to be softer with her, however, and she absolutely appreciated that now that she was older.
She knew all of this, and she felt guilty. The girl shook her head when he gestured for her to come closer. She settled her brown gaze on the floor and tucked her brown hair behind her ears as best she could--her hair was between Dean and Sammy's length.
"I... I..." Tears gathered in her eyes and she thought about how disappointed he would be if she told him the truth. That she had been walking so stiffly because she added to the collection of haphazard scars that criss crossed the front of her thighs, that still stung and burned.
"Nevermind... Sorry..." She said suddenly, spinning on her heel and trying to head back to her room.

Things really were rough for John and he knew that it was sort of a thankless job for the most part but at the same time he was rewarded with the way that his children were turning out. They were good people and he knew that, sure he'd been hard on them but that was because he wanted what was best for them.
His focus was completely on his daughter as she said that she had done something dumb, the man asking her what that was and then noticing the tears that appeared in her eyes as she started to talk. Of course when she suddenly told him to nevermind and then turned to walk away he was on his feet immediately.
"Hold it right there," he told her, walking over and taking her by the wrist so that she couldn't make her retreat. "It's something...and something serious...and I want to know what it is," he told her, his tone stern but also caring.

Sometimes it amazed Kelsey how fast her father moved, for his age. He was a pretty ancient dude, in her eyes. The girl was forced to stop when her father was suddenly by her, catching her arm and telling her to hold it right there. She didn't look at him. She couldn't. All she could picture was the disappointment, or the anger. She wasn't sure which would be worse.
She sort of hoped for anger. Maybe he would flip and wail on her--for real. She felt like she deserved a good punch in the nose.
She slowly shook her head, if anything to provoke the bear that was her dad. "Uh uh... It's nothin'... Lemme go." She ordered, trying to pull away from him.

John had spent time in the Marines, he'd fought in war, and then he'd been through hell and back after becoming a hunter so despite his age he was in damn good shape. A fact that he showed off as he got to his feet and closed the distance between himself and his daughter, catching her by the wrist and telling her that he wanted to know what was going on.
He arched a brow when she shook her head and told him that it was nothing and then ordered her to let him go. That was of course not something that he was going to do so it was his turn to shake his head, the man giving her wrist a gentle tug as he said, "Come on."
John had every intention of getting to the bottom of this and the expression on his face was grim as he guided Kelsey over to his chair, the man sitting down and then holding Kelsey so that she was facing him. "Now I want to know what's going on with you Kelsey."

Kelsey couldn't suppress the shudder that rolled through her as her father basically ignored her request and then told her to follow, not giving her much choice, because he began to lead her back to the chair he sat in before she came in. She shuddered because it gave her freaky flashbacks to her childhood, when she would get into trouble and her father would lead her to a chair just as this before he hauled off and whooped her butt good.
She was almost worried that he would do it now. But surely, he couldn't be thinking of that.
She stood in front of him, frowning. "Nothin' goin' on." She insisted. "I just... I broke somethin'." She suddenly lied. "A glass that was in my room. I felt bad. But now I told ya, and don't feel bad no more."

John looked at Kelsey once he was sitting on the chair with the girl standing in front of him and he gazed at her as she basically lied to him. And he could tell that it was a lie just because of the suddne way that she said it as well as the fact that he hadn't heard anything break.
And he definitely would have heard it.
"So why didn't I hear the sound of anything breaking?" he asked her, arching a brow and giving her an 'I know you're lying to me right now' look. It was pretty clear that she was being dishonest and that was one of his pet peeves.
He hated it when any of his children tried to lie to him.

Immediately after John asked his question, Kelsey conjured a bad timed smart ass answer.
"Because yer old." She said lightly, almost grinning before she really realizes that that was a bad thing to say in the situation. She gulped a bit at the look she now realized he was giving her.
"Umm... Because..." She scrambled for a 'legitimate' reason for him not hearing it. "I broke it this mornin' when you were sleepin'!" The girl quickly answered.

John's eyes narrowed slightly when Kelsey answered his question by saying that he was old, the man shaking his head in response to that as he gave her a look. "You know better than to talk to me in such a disrespectful manner young lady," the man said, shaking his head as he gazed at her and watched her grasping at straws to come up with a legitimate answer.
When she went on to say that she had broken it that morning when he was sleeping, that one causing him to sigh and shake his head. "Kelsey, I'm an extremely light sleeper and my bedroom is across from yours...I would have heard it," he pointed out to her in a blank tone of voice.
"Now I'm going to give you one final chance to tell me what you did that was so dumb," he told her in a stern tone of voice.
