Life With Sherlock Holmes: Vivienne
It had been six years exactly since Mary Mortisan gave birth and passed away. During the time she was pregnant with what she hadn't known were twins, she and John were going through a bitter, early divorce. The woman had lied to him and seriously injured his best friend, such betrayals could not be forgiven. It wasn't long after they split up that Sherlock confessed his feelings for John, and the ex soldier in fact, did reciprocate them. Since then the two have been living in 221B with their children.
The first born by only a minute was Abigail, a gorgeous little girl who had the best physical qualities of her mother and the heart of her father. Hamish on the other hand had his father's darkish blonde locks and deep green eyes that seemed to pierce into your soul. Yet the child seemed to take to Sherlock better, there was an unspoken connection between them, mental-wise and the child was always hungry for knowlage.
At the moment Hamish was sitting in the middle of the room, poking at some of his papa's experiments. He knew he wasn't supposed to but he was beyond curious.

Sherlock Holmes had never wanted to be a parent. For the most part, children repulsed him with their neediness, lack of common sense, and general self-centred attitudes. Lestrade once pointed out that Sherlock possessed all these qualities on his worst days, and the detective had sulked about it for days. But the commissioner had a point. Holmes wasn't exactly father material at the start. He had a dangerous occupation, erratic sleeping and working hours, and a home as child-friendly as a construction site. But after a few years of practice (and a great deal of trial and error), he had become what he would call a 'satisfactory' parent. Though he was hardly conventional.
"Hamish Watson," Sherlock spoke without looking up from the stack of books he was working through for a case. "Red marked chemicals, off limits. Don't do it again." He had very early implemented a system that told the children what they were allowed to touch or play with. Little stickers of varying colors were all around the house, with red being the universal symbol for 'absolutely not'.
Abigail walked along the sidewalk some blocks away with her papa, John, her hand held in his so she wouldn't be tempted to wander. They'd gone out to fetch food to eat, but she was just itching to run around and play in the snow of the park. "Papaaa," she whined for his attention as she looked across the street at other kids running about. "I want to play with them. Can I, please?"

Hamish pouted, frowning up at his father. "It's a stupid rule" he complained, crossing his little arms over his chest "I never get to have fun"
John looked down at his daughter and shook his head "Sorry love but it is too late for you to play. Besides we have a job to do right?" He gave her hand a little squeeze as he smiled down at Abby

"Stupid is playing with basic compounds that could burn your skin," Sherlock pointed out dryly before snorting softly at Hamish's complaint. "Don't be over-dramatic. There's plenty for you to do."
"Yeah... I suppose so..." Abigail sighed, watching wistfully as a couple boys and girls played tag. "What are we going to fetch for dinner anyway, papa?"

Narrowing his eyes the six year old glared and reached a defiant hand out to touch the red labeled compound closest to him. It seemed almost too much of Sherlock's attitude had rubbed off on the child.
John opened the door for his little girl and smiled "We are getting some fish and chips for your father and I and a grilled cheese for your brother. What would you like to eat sweet heart?"

Sherlock decided this would be what some called a 'teachable moment'. Though it seemed he wasn't paying attention to the young boy, he kept careful watch on the child through little glances he snuck over his book. He'd wait to see if Hamish was so rebellious as to try and touch the liquid inside the test tube. It'd sting his hand, but a good wash and a bit of an acid would nullify the base and leave the boy with just a little rash. Though the detective doubted he would attempt something like that again - especially not after he was punished for it.
"I want fish and chips like you and father!" Abby said proudly as she stepped inside the store. She always was trying so very hard to be grown up.

Hamish slowly lifted the beaker and instead of touching it, smirk and poured the contents on the floor "Oops~" he exclaimed, watching as the acid ate away at the carpet. It was strong but not strong enough to go through the floor.
John chuckled "Is that so? Are you absolutely sure of that little one? It requires patience" he lifted her into his arms and booped her cute little nose.

Sherlock's eyes widened as he listened to the telltale hiss of the compound burning through the rug. Had Hamish really just-? What purpose did that kind of action serve, if not to provoke a reaction from him? Well, if it was a reaction his son wanted, it's a reaction he'd earned. "Hamish Watson, you little fiend," let out a frustrated growl as he snapped his book closed and set it on the pile. Standing up, he strode quickly to the table where the counter-agent was, pouring it too over the bubbling part of the carpet. As the chemicals nullified one another, the tall man glowered down at his son and snapped, "why?"
"Why patience, Papa?" Abigail wondered aloud, smiling a bit when he poked her nose. Sure, she wanted very much to be an adult, but how could she resist being held by her Dad? Surely even adults were held by their parents sometimes.

Hamish just sat there, smirking "It was an accident" he replied smugly. He couldn't be punished if it was an accident and his father couldn't prove it wasn't. No evidence, no crime. The little boy was intimidated by his father, yes but he would NOT show it. So he covered his fear with a kind of satisfied arrogance.
John chuckled "It takes longer to make your father and i's food pumpkin" He pointed out "are you sure you want to wait?"

Did Hamish really think he was fooling anyone? That the best detective in London - arguably the world - would believe such a ridiculous cover story? Sherlock snorted before reaching out with a long arm and grasping his son's wrist, "I've been more than lenient with you." Holmes scolded before starting to drag his son toward his armchair. This had gone on long enough.
"I can wait!" She insisted with a pout up at her Papa. "I'm a big girl. I can wait as long as you or father!" But she was very young, not grasping the permanence of time as easily as her patents. It didn't stop her from trying to impress them though.
