A Rosy Dawn of a New Adventure (For CrystalLip)

Ash was hanging around Professor Rowen's Pokémon laboratory, with his new friend, Dawn. He had already had quite an experience, in Sinnoh. He had caught a Starly...had a battle with a trainer named Paul, which ended in a draw...and he had helped recover the starter pokémon, which had run off to play. It the recovery, he and the Turtwig, had grown real close. As a result of this friendship, Ash obtained his second Sinnoh pokémon.

"So are you entering the Sinnoh League too, Dawn?" he asked.

Dawn, a ten-year-old girl who had just started her journey and gotten her first pokemon, looked up when Ash suddenly started speaking. The two were in a lounge-like area as they waited for Professor Rowan to finish speaking with Ash's own professor, Professor Oak (whom Dawn was still sure was more of a poet than a researcher). "No, I'm not," said Dawn, and shook her head. "I'm going to be entering contests, like my mom did before me. She was a contest champion back when she used to travel," shared Dawn.

Sylvia, a researcher visiting Sinnoh for, well, research, walked into the room. She was currently a guest at the lab, where she was helping her idol with a few small projects. Her eyes landed on the two trainers (both of whom had picked one of the starters the professor had raised), and then moved to the very healthy Pikachu next to the boy. The brunette's eyes widened, and she practically ran over to them. "Erm, excuse me."

"Huh? Oh, hello," said Dawn. "Is there something wrong? Professor Rowan said we could sit here," said Dawn, worriedly. Were they in the way?!

"Oh, no, nothing like that. I was just wondering if I could see your Pikachu," requested Sylvia. "I can tell that it's well-taken care of."

Ash smiled.

"Oh I see" he said, "So you're gonna be a coordinator. I have a friend who's a coordinator, named May. We used to travel together, and..."

He looked up, as Sylvia came over. He blinked a bit, at her request.

"Uh...sure" he said , "I guess you can look at him, if you want. But don't be too rough...he's pretty high powered."

Sylvia grinned ear-to-ear. "Thank you very much." Gently-cautious of Ash's warning, Sylvia picked up the yellow rodent. "Hello, Pikachu," she said, and scratched the little guy behind his ears. All the while she observed his complexion up close. Satisfied with the close-up inspection, she set him on the floor. "I need you to do something for me." She dug through her bag and pulled out some sort of rod connect to a little measuring device. "Can you use an electrical attack on this rod? It will help me measure your strength." Dawn watched all of this curiously, as did Piplup.

Pikachu looked at Ash, who shrugged, and nodded.

"Just hit the rod, and not her" he said.

Pikachu nodded, and then used a Thunderbolt, which hit the rod.

Sylvia watched the measuring device. A little red hand went up and up until it stopped. "You have a strong Pikachu," observed Sylvia. "I would say it's in the upper thirty percentile of electric Pokemon that I've tested, personally. It still has a lot of room to grow, too," said Sylvia. As Sylvia thanked them, and tucked her measuring device away, she said. "Oh, I never introduced myself. I'm Sylvia. I'm a researcher from the Unova region."

Dawn introduced herself. "Nice to meet you, Sylvia. I'm Dawn, and this is my new partner Piplup."

"Pip-pip!" chirped the piplup.

"Nice to meet you" said Ash, "I'm Ash Ketchum, from Pallet Town. And you already met my partner, Pikachu."

"Pika!" he laughed, jumping up onto Ash's shoulder, and waving to Sylvia.

"It's nice to meet you all," returned Sylvia, kindly. She took a seat on one of the free couches. "So, I may have overheard a bit of your conversation, earlier. Did I hear correctly that you are both challenging the Sinnoh League gyms and contests, respectively?"

Dawn nodded. "That's right. I'll be participating in contests, and Ash plans to challenge the Pokemon League."

"Interesting," said Sylvia. She licked her bottom lip. "Hmm...would you two mind if I tagged along? I've been meaning to see more of Sinnoh, and it's more fun to travel with others."

Ash smiled.

"I don't mind" he said, "When it comes to traveling, I say the more the merrier."

"Oh, is Sylvia leaving us, already?" asked Professor Rowan, walking into the room. He had just finished a conversation with an old friend of his. "It's a shame to see you gone so soon. I enjoyed discussing your theories on evolution." Then, to Ash and Dawn. "I would suggest to take advantage of having such a keen mind as an ally. Now, here is your updated pokedex," said Rowan, and handed Ash his new pokedex.
