It was late morning just before lunch in a quaint little suburban area, the early summer sun was high in the sky still as a young woman was walking down the street of the quiet neighbourhood.

She had long silver hair down past her shoulder blades with silver ice blue eyes, her hair tied back in a partial braid with a small black ribbon letting the rest hang freely. She wore a blue blouse with thin near transparent sleeves, with both the collar and the wristbands with silver studs on them. Matched with a knee-length white skirt with three black bands along the bottom and black open toed high heel shoes, and around her right shoulder was a small brown purse bag.

She was Liliana “Lily” Ashworth, a proud young lady who had worked nearly every day in her life to get where she was now, eighteen years old, with high grades and multiple college acceptance letters and scholarship proposals, she had managed to hold down a job since she was fourteen and still manage to keep up with her schooling, just so she could afford nice things such as her Ming Jiang Zhu 909 Violin that she bought herself for over four thousand pounds.
She had to no one else would have, her mother certainly wouldn’t have, though she loved her, it had been clear to Liliana from an early age that if she wanted something in life she had to get it herself, her mother didn’t have any drive that she and the rest of her family seemed to have, something that she just couldn’t understand.

Liliana was coming home from a late night shift at her only physical workplace, it was close by so she had left her car at home in favour of walking there and back to save fuel. Now she was planning to take a nice hot bath and then got to sleep for an hour or so when she got home, before starting on another one of her many commissioned pieces of artwork for her clients, yet another part-time job she kept up to pay for her own lifestyle.

As she rounded the corner of the street her house was on she paused for a minute seeing her mother’s silver Fiat Tipo in the driveway, next to her own white Ford Fiesta, ‘hm, mother isn’t supposed to be home yet’ she thought to herself as she approached the house and opened the door surprised to find it unlocked, but stopped in the doorway her eyes wide.
The side door she had chosen to go through entered into the kitchen and right now, it was a complete and utter bombsight, beer bottles everywhere, junk food rappers strewed across the floor, the counter tops a mess, puke in the sink and on the floor, cupboards hanging off their fixings, the fridge, that she had stocked, empty, same with the cupboards.

Starting through the mess Liliana couldn’t even comprehend what had happened, she had been gone less than twelve hours. Making her way through to the living room it wasn’t any better, and the sofas were even destroyed, and there was vomit on the walls, and she was sure she could even smell urine from somewhere.

But worst of all as she made her way through to her “free” room, a room she kept locked at all times, because it had her Violin, artwork and art supplies inside, she instead found the door kicked in with boot prints on it, the walls covered in her imported paints, her canvases destroyed, her works in ruins, and in the middle of it all her Ming Jiang Zhu 909 Violin broken into pieces and its bow snapped.
Liliana’s fists clenched and she saw red, her breathing was heavy and her blood boiled, someone would pay for this, she wanted answers and she wanted them now, and she knew who would give them to her.

Sophia ”Sophie” Ashworth was once a normal 18 year old girl with the same drive She now saw in her daughter. Wanting to make a good life for her and her family. She even wanted to attend law school and become a lawyer. That was, until everything fell apart when she was in her 20s and her husband left her, leaving her working two jobs and taking care of her daughter.


She had been struggling to do it all until finally one day she snapped. She decided she couldn’t do it all and she needed to stop. So instead of seeking help she gave up and resigned back to being the teenager she didn’t get to be, because of how young she was when her daughter was born she had to grow up fast. And yes of course she loved Lilliana. More than life in itself. She wouldn’t trade her in for anything. She was simply sad thinking about all the stuff she missed out on.


Sophia had just gotten home from the worst day ever. “Who gets fired from two damn jobs in one day! What rotten luck!” She said as she picked her phone up “momma needs a break. Time for some fun with the girls.” She said as she dialed the phone numbers and made the calls to have a party at her place.


One long sleepless night filled with a lot of drinking later. She woke up and wandered around the house gasping as she had seen all the damage they had done “oh no! Lily’s gonna be pissed!” She said as she saw the door to her special room open “uh oh she must be home already!” She said as she walked in and gasped saw all the broken stuff in her room, especially her prized possession. The violin. She stood there for a second in her red t-shirt and pajama pants. Her hair was all messed up and frizzy. She was taking in the sights around her when she heard the door slam open followed by a loud yell “MOTHER!!!!!” She heard lily as she turned around “u-um... h-hi lily!” She said timidly looking down “I-um h-how w-was work!” She said trying to ignore the damage obviously cause by herself!

Coming into the living room from her free room Lily's eyes narrowed on her mother with a rage in them as she held the remains of her treasured violin in her hands as she spoke with venom in her voice.

"What happened here!" she said as she did her best to suppress her anger and not lunge at the woman in front of her, her main source of income had been in that room, not to mention three pieces of coursework for her college courses and five separate commissioned pieces of art work that she was working on for clients.

with her violin destroyed how was she meant to do any of her practicals for her music course work for her degree in the musical arts, everything was falling apart all her hard work, she needed to calm down and focus.

“W-well... y-you see, I-I had a rough day at work and w-well I thought I’d have some friends over a-and one thing lead to another and I just didn’t mean for this to happen!” She said with a whimper as she stared at the ground feeling very embarrassed and sad now

Lily took in several breaths as she looked around her, anywhere but her mother at that moment before she looked back to the stairs and a thought crosser her mind and it filled her with dread. She turned her gaze back to her mother suppressing her anger for a final time as she spoke.

"I can see that clearly, exactly how far did things go, is upstairs like this as well, I have yet to check?" she asked with a hint of dread in her voice.

her bedroom was upstairs, her fabrics she used to make her clothing, and her laptop with all her coursework in it, was it destroyed as well because of her mother.

She nodded as her eyes stayed at the floor she didn’t have enough dignity to even think about making eye contact. She didn’t even want to see her daughters sad eyes as she realized that her room was destroyed

Not even responding to that she turned and raced up the stairs her heart pounding as she made for her room, her destroyed violin forgotten at that minute, the fact that she had been wise enough to make sure she had insured the expensive instrument a week after buying it was one thing that kept her sane, she knew she could easily get it replaced but her laptop and course work were something else entirely.

opening her door into her room she felt her world shatter for the second time in the space of a few minutes.

her room was completely destroyed, her roles of fabric were shredded, her mannequins lay in pieces, her desk with her fashion sketches was tipped over and her bed was a mess, but the main object of her heart break was her mac book, that was in the middle of her room on the floor, lay open with a pair of industrial fashion scissors through its middle, its screen was cracked, and with that she fell to her knees her eyes wide, her entire world lay in pieces... nothing was left Lily stood there at a complete loss unable to think as she just stared at the ruins of the life the had built for herself as she felt hot tears steak down her cheeks. It was all gone.

“L-Lilliana?” Sophia call out as she followed her up the stairs she let out a deep breath as she gathered all of her courage “I-I’m Sorry... for everything. Please don’t hate me! Is there anything I can do to make it up to you?” She as she bowed her head shamefully in Lily’s direction willing to do whatever it took to get her daughter to forgive her.

Lily took in several breaths as she tried to think, she could salage this she had to, until she took time to go through everything nothing was a permanent loss, she would not let this break her.

after a moment she wiped her eyes and took another breath, "No, I need to go through my rooms, I need to see if anything I have can be salvaged, I have calls to make to see if I can postpone hand in dates and commissions submissions" she said as she took another breath, "you should get to work, I'll clean up this mess." she said as she fought back to add the comment "as usual"

She blinked as she watched her wipe her tears and her up she heard the work comment “w-well actually... there is no work to get to.” She said as she dropped her head down again with a soft whimper tears filled her eyes now “I wreck everything I touch!” She cried out as she fell to her knees and began full out sobbing
