Shikamaru yawned and shifted his shoulders slightly. The clouds were moving ever so slowly in the sky.....

He sniffed as he mentally analyzed the molecular structure of the cloud closest to him, in the troposphere. Negating the threat of annoying rain, he closed his eyes.

Seriously what was his dad thinking? Telling him, a genius, to clean up the training room of scrolls and kunai after practice. It was his dad who didn't want his mom to go ballistic, so why didn't the old man clean it up himself?

Shikamaru had better things to do with his time anyway...he'd do the annoying chore later.

About an hour later, Shikaku stomped up the stairs to the roof, nursing what luckily hadn't become a black eye, and assorted other minor bruises. His wife could throw a mean right hook when she got good and steamed. And of the many things that got her steamed was a messy house. Never mind that she didn't even use that room . . .

"Shikamaru . . . " he said testily when he saw his lazy son lying around watching clouds. "Mind telling me why you didn't clean up the training room like I asked you?"

"Oh, I'll get to that eventually." Shikamaru got up and stretched. "I have to go to meet up with my team for a bothersome mission or something. Say what happened to your face?"

He attempted to walk past his dad.

Just as Shikamaru was about to cross to step across the threshold and into the stairwell, his dad grasped him firmly by the upper arm. "Oh, I'm sure your team can wait a few extra minutes. You and I have something important to discuss. Yeah . . . " His eyes glinted dangerously. "some good old fashioned father-son talk."

He started to guide Shikamaru back towards the seat he'd just vacated, intending to perform a much more strenuous activity on his son's backside than cloud-watching.

"Dad, what are you doing? I need to go." He didn't like the look on his father's eyes. They reminded him too much of those times when he'd been younger...and more risk-taking. But surely his dad wasn't planning on doing something like THAT now, was he?

Shikamaru tried to equate the effort his dad would go through to correct versus his non-desire to make his mom mad. The figures didn't bode well.

"Don't worry, I told you this will only take a few minutes," Shikaku answered, dragging his teenage son. "That is, unless you do something else bratty. Then you'll be over my knee much longer." He looked at Shikamaru, as if to say, Yes, that's right. You're getting a spanking.

He didn't give Shikamaru anytime to think about that new information. With a grunt, Shikaku pulled hard on the guy's arm and dumped him over his lap. Then he raised his arm up high, and applied the first swat to the seat of his son's pants. Let's see him genius his way out of this one.

Shikamaru gasped when the first stinging swat landed on his backside. He wriggled a little on his father's lap, but stopped when he considered that running away would earn him a harsher punishment. At least he's not doing it on the bare...he thought.

He gritted his teeth as the second smack landed. Bare or not, it was starting to hurt. Shikamaru considered that now that he was a chuunin maybe he had more levarage in an argument.

Just then, he realized that they were on the roof, the most used traffic network by ninjas. Every shinobi in Konoha would know about this soon. "Dad, stop it, I'm not ten anymore!"

"It doesn't matter how old you are, son," Shikaku answered as he continued to smack the lazy guy. His powerful arm muscles flexed as his palm hurtled up and down. "As long as you sleep under my roof and eat the meals your mother prepares for you, you're also due parental discipline when you need it. And in this house, that's always been a firm spanking." He accentuated his words with a stiff swat to his son's lower cheeks.

"I was hoping I wouldn't have to do this anymore once you became a Chuunin, but lately you've been even lazier than usual . . . " he went on as he continued to spank, literally getting to the seat of the problem.

Just then, Inuzuka Kiba jumped on the rooftop on front of theirs on his way to his house. He was about to leap again when he caught sight of the Nara men. He stopped at mid-jump and grinned showing his fangs. When Shikamaru made eye contact with him, Kiba made sure to show the genius shougi player that he would not be spared the gossip.

Shikamaru groaned as the dog-nin leaped away. Prefect. Now he would never hear the end of it. And all because his dad...no, his mom was too picky about his stupid chores.

The growing discomfort in his backside made it much harder to think objectively. Shikamaru was getting more embarrassed and incautiousby each swat. He winced as his face flushed red, momentarily throwing caution to the wind.

"The only reason you wanted me to clean up was so you wouldn't face mom. She has you whipped. Well if you care so much about not incurring her wrath why not do it yourself?"

The scarred man scowled at Shikamaru's statement, and flushed red himself--though in his case the cause was anger and not embarrassment. His wife might indeed have him whipped, but he didn't need his son of all people to point it out to him.

"I'll tell you why," he growled, starting to spank harder, "Because you're my son and I told YOU to do the cleaning, that's why! But clearly this punishment isn't getting through to you yet!" Suddenly grabbing a handful of cloth, Shikaku yanked down and completely bared Shikamaru's ass. He didn't care if anyone saw his son's naked rear, the boy had pissed him off. Then he began laying into the already-pinkened cheeks, smacking each smooth bun sharply.
