Human Nature - Spock/Sarek - GothicRuby x JadeRulez
A young eight year old Spock left the library, tired of his studies, and though his Father Sarek had forbidden him to go up into the mountains, and he refused to tell him why he was going up there, he started on the way up there. "Father is so annoying." he huffed, going up the mountain trail. So long as his Father did not ever find out, he assumed everything would be okay.

The more ambassador Sarek mulled over the outbursts of disobedience that his young son had forced him to contend with, the worse that sense of fatigue threatened to set in over his aging body. For the past month, young Spock had disappeared up to the mountains time and time again for days on end. Putting aside the illogic of the behaviour, Sarek truly did not wish to contend with his human mother's outbursts of frantic distress again; her temper was nothing he could not handle, it was her tears that he found unsettling.
So, in an attempt to resolve the situation, Sarek had decided to approach his son during his allotted study time and, as his wife had put it, 'surprise' the boy with an early reprieve in which they may be able to talk.
"Spock?" he gently called towards where the boy usually sat; brow lowering upon the observation that his son was nowhere to be seen.

Spock cared not for his Father's or his Mother's concerns for his whereabouts, the mountains were somewhere Spock could think, where he could be alone to mull over his thoughts, to control his human emotions other Vulcans would find offensive when to Spock, they were just natural. It was hard for a young Vulcan to be half human, for that side of him caused him so much trouble. The child took a seat beside one of the carved rocks, looking out over the orange coloured land, brown eyes fixated on everything ahead of him.

The main advantage that Sarek would always know he held over his wife was the ability to supress any surge of blind panic or indulge any frustrations more than was needed. Because of this, the ambassador was easily able to surmise where exactly his son must be despite the lack of a purpose. Without another thought for the matter, Sarek turned to calmly start up the trail towards the mountains--taking special note of any noticeably tiny footprints remaining in the gravel beneath.
Sarek's pace served him well, he realised, upon locating Spock. He did not speak, instead silently made his way over towards the boy in order to regard him a look of unbridled puzzlement--something he was able to do for what must have been atleast a few minutes seeing as Spock seemed all too lost in his thoughts.

Spock sat, silence consumed him and he continued to gaze across the land that was so commonly known as Vulcan, it was relaxing, at least for a few moments. From the corner of his eye, Spock noticed something move, too large to be a simple Vulcan dwelling creature. He turned his head and his eyes widened upon seeing his Father. "Father?" it took great control to keep the shock from his voice but he scrambled to his feet, keeping eye contact. "I did not hear you...I trust...you are not happy, with my being here?"

"Although the term is crude, my son, your observation is correct." Sarek affirmed as he noted the dissonance between what the calm, collected tone of the young Vulcan's tone spoke in comparison to that of his all too expressive eyes. Nevertheless he maintained his proud stance, unreadable as ever, and proceeded to cross his arms across his chest "Have I not forbade you from indulging such illogical behaviour, Spock?" he questioned curtly.

Spock did not like the feeling that he was going to be punished for disobeying his Father creeping up on his shoulders, but it was indeed logical, a child should never disobey a parent. But it was the satisfaction of indulging his Human need to rebel, for the reason he did end up in trouble, more precisely over his Father's lap for punishment. "Indeed you did Father, and it is true that I have disobeyed what you told me." he answered, no hint of remorse to his tone though his brown eyes sparked with slight fear of what was to come.

Sarek continued to remain stoic in the face of what was, obviously, a display of his son's petulance "I trust then," he started, willing to atleast give Spock the opportunity to redeem himself before resorting to what was becoming an all too frequent occurance "That you can offer me a logical explanation for your wayward behaviour, Spock?"

Spock kept eye contact with his Father, his human influence causing the common emotion of fear to bubble within him, where his gut resided. His Father could b quite formidable. "I felt the need, to rebel, Father." he answered and placed his hands behind his back. "I trust that is a human emotion I am partial to." he cleared his throat and raised his chin slightly. "I have no logical explanation that I believe is by your standards." he answered, the slightest hint of attitude creeping into his tone.

"Not an emotion, my son," Sarek reprimanded, taking one of Spock's wrists in a firm grip "Rather, an impulse. An impulse you should be able to control regardless of your heritages." he wasted no time in turning to pull Spock back down the trail from which the boy had no doubt strode so confidently up less than half an hour before "It is for that reason, Spock, that I will not tolerate your lack of control over those impulses any longer; only the worst of humans have so little control as you displayed, therefore you do neither race no credit in your petulance."
