Oshioki Sentai Spankanger 1 of 10.

The 43rd Super Sentai Team - the Spankangers!

This show is currently being prepared for its USA and Europe release under the name 'Power Rangers: Discipline Force.'

For those who aren't aware, all power ranger TV series (And quite a few other shows pre-dating that) started life as a Japanese series of shows known as the Super Sentai.

The fight sequences, mecha sequences and most other parts where masks are work are refilmed as Power Rangers with western actors.

For example: Zyuranger

Due to cultural differences, the japanese show often turns out to be a bit more violent, permits more obvious references or inferences to death - but consequently also has a lot more short skirts, tropes, cosplay and materialism.

The name Oshioki Sentai Spankanger fits within the naming methedology of the canon.
And yes, a bit of a mild mecha fan and medium japanese telly fan I have watched a fair few Sentai series.
I highly recomend Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger, the Pirate Rangers.
Its basically a cross between Firefly, Battle of the Planets and Mouretsu Pirates.

This is a comic idea I've had for a very long time, sketched out for at least two years and been a 'WIP' for more than a year too.

As always I've used a few of my friends from AotK as characters, many will recognise my avatar - A little younger and light-haired to suit the fact I have to wear dark clothes... guess who the Red Ranger is(!) - to one side Zani and my long term rival CMZ.
The others are Lady Shiroi and Crissy.

I took a lot of liberties over costume because... I'm a perv. Crissy once told me her hair was 'like a messy bun,' thats totally the impression I'm going with. Guess who the Pink Ranger is(!)

I've got a lot of tropes to do and not as many panels as it feels like if I want to hit them hard enough to leave a bruise.

The villains are, as noted, part of the Wicked Union and the monster-of-the-week is the Mischievous 'Naughtidentity' being sent to earth by my evil Rita Repulsa type. Her hair is supposed to be a sort of a horns job.
I'm trying to squeeze in puns where it doesn't distrupt too much. Under the working sketches, I think I called him Triceri'rascal or something. It didn't work.
Like all the monsters he's based on a theme, in this case dinosaur.

At least the Wicked Union's inevitable attack will only ruin, what is, the worlds most boring picnic. I mean, only a handful of sandwiches, some olives and what looks like to tomato's?

No colour frames in this one. I know it seems quite, quite mad to do a B&W comic for one of the most colour-sensitive franchises around but I wanted to do a comic in this style and only this style for a while.

Comments - and alternative puns - very welcome.

That picnic is an abomination. X3
*Issues you a fine of no less than 7 Hail Bloody Mary's and one jog around the block*
The Power Rangers shows are not my thing, but I do appreciate the short skirts that sometimes are seen. And it does look like goofy fun, but meh, limited time and such like. I have to pick and choose my battles. ^^

I like that you are trying new poses for your characters, instead of relying upon the routine standing upright and sitting in chairs. Good on you ! I'm still impressed at your skill with drawing shoes, especially the high heels. Ok ok.....maybe that's just simmering envy. -3-
ANYWHOOO !
Work on your picnic skills. ;3

I was just about to yell at you for the skirt, and other obvious details, but then I read the perv part, and I guess I'll forgive you
Glad to see the comic taking on some shape. Can't wait to see more

@Circe; Goofy is, I'm sometimes ashamed to admit, my thing~

I've got a fair few comics planed - that are half-on, half-off - which typically have a lot more complex blocking, framing and posing. Consequently they're also a lot harder for me to draw~
I've always been envious of your effortless-looking turnaround time for drawing~ You have a great ability for story-telling I lack v___v

@ Lady Shiroi; Pff, your dress is of moderate length~

RobM: It only seems effortless. There is still the required time to research, plan ahead, frame, structure dialog, scribble the roughs, finish roughs, scan, and clean up. And ya wanna know a secret for storytelling ? (ps. thanks for the compliments ! ^//////^ ) The secret is to go slow. Take your time and extend a scene so that you establish a character for the audience. It's a lot of work, but worth it in the end. You don't lack the ability, you've only lacked the number of pages to tell the story properly. *Taps your desk for emphasis*
