cancelled-sketches

These are some sketches that I've abandoned. They're works in progress that I don't like enough to finish. But I like them JUST enough to keep them around, so I decided to share them.

And just for fun I included notes on why I gave up on each of them.

This is really cool! I love to see what an artist is thinking when they're drawing.

Thanks for this. Really opens my eyes in regards to revising and editing, especially as a beginner

They look acceptable to me. But this sort of self criticism is necessary to improve as an artist. Keep your standards high and your characters' pants low !

Good stuff. I, too, have a million of these laying around. Tbh most of yours seem like small points, as most of them are either (1) isolated issues (redraw face, redraw arm or hand, etc) or (2) your style is cartoony enough that you can get away with some exaggerated proportions and no one will notice. Except the guy's lack of shoulder on the upper left. Can't unsee that one once you've pointed it out.

If you can see all things which are wrong and you don't like them, why don't you just fix them? >.> Those pics look pretty interesting. Maybe you should think about it?

Lol, I should probably clarify a little.

The notes on these aren't the ONLY reasons I gave up on them. I just didn't like them that much. Most of these are experiments with poses and angles I'd never tried before. And even if they look okay, I think I'll eventually be able to do better versions once I've had some more practice. (especially the first one and the last one.)

Basically, learning-sketches like these are a fun part of the creative process, and they produce some cute results. So even though I don't intend to finish them, I thought I'd share.

Endless self-critique and anatomical nitpicking are also part of my process, so I thought I'd share a little of that too.

It's your art and your decision. You're the boss obviously. With that being said however, I have to add that I, along with quite a few others, would probably give their left arm just to draw half as good as this.

Just sayin.

I really adore some of thse. The two on the bottom left, I love them a lot. Not many wheelbarrow positions and the one above it, I really like the angle. The face looks okay to me!

Instead of being failed sketches, is there no way you can improve them? (and failed is a hard work when they still look great!)
