Ashley had been busy in the kitchen when her daughter opened the door and called out to announce her recent entrance, “Hey baby girl!” Ashley called to her daughter. The apartment in which the two lived was a modest two bedrooms, just enough space for mother, daughter and father who had recently been deployed. The downstairs was set up with a kitchen, living room and dining area with a spiral staircase generating upstairs to the two bedroom hallway. Ashley had finished her daughters’ afternoon snack an hour or so before the girl arrived home and with that done Ashley took the plate of sliced apples and peaches out of the fridge and onto the counter for Alice to retrieve, “How was school?” Ashley asked as she shut the fridge and strolled over to her daughter. Ashley bent down and placed a kiss on Alison’s cheek, “Did you remember to stop and get eggs from Mr.Jado?” Ashley inquired. She had sent Alison off to school with twenty five cents to get eggs on her way home. She didn’t particularly need her daughter to do it but Ashley felt that giving the girl the feeling of importance was a valued part of growing up.
