Default A Vulcan's comeuppance - Ruby/Jade

(( sucky name i know XD ))

As one of the Enterprise crew was rushed to the infirmary, Doctor McCoy was quick on the scene, and Spock decided to follow along, maybe offer some pointers to the dark brunette, and he guessed his opinions would not really be listened to, or taken into consideration. Humans were incapable of completing the simplest of tasks.

Spock stood by, watching with eagle eyes at what Doctor McCoy was doing. Contrary to Vulcan remedies, he really did feel that Leonard McCoy's method of medical practice was inferior. Of course, the stubborn, often snide Vulcan could not refrain from making his snide comments. "I was not aware that you were quite so out of practice, I do not feel your methods are correct. But of course....they are Earth methods, I am not surprised." He didn't really care if Bones heard or not but he didn't exactly keep his refined voice down.

The pointy eared first officer folded his strong arms over his chest, one eyebrow raised. "Perhaps you should familiarize yourself with the traditional Vulcan remedies, I am sure that even a human like yourself can grasp the lowest information."

"Oh well, then clearly I owe you an apology Mister Spock," Leonard McCoy was quick to retort as his patient's vitals began to flare rapidly over the monitor's screen, setting the physician instantly on edge "Evidently I have been studying the entirely wrong practice for the past decade and a half," while he would have loved to turn and cast the hovering Vulcan a very poignant glare to illustrate the seniority of the situation, the crewman was in far too critical a condition for him to waste precious time trying to fuel an argument over the matter "And serving my position clearly in vain," he continued, having to reach past Spock for the appropriate hypodermic needles "Seeing as all this time you have been more than qualified to do the job of this entire ward." the sarcasm was severely overshadowed at that moment, however, by the look of absolute horror the doctor wore when the crewman's pulse dropped alongside his oxygen levels and kidney function "Damnit Spock, if you want to help get that oxygen tank and anti-toxin kit over here! It looks like he's going into anaphylaxis shock!"

( Aw no, I liked it )

"The fact that you respond with the fact you have indeed been studying the wrong practice, finds my argument valid." The dark eyed Vulcan answered and clucked his tongue only just slightly, watching Bones continue to do - what he called - work. It was more like theatrics in the eyes of the pointy eared half breed. "Should you not make the incision a degree to the left of the patient Doctor?" he asked, he had tried to refrain from getting his opinions across but.....oh who would believe that? Of course he wasn't trying to hold back on his opinions. Spock was a proud Vulcan, and believed that his intellect surpassed that of any human, his opinions were always valid, and more to the point - correct.

"I cannot keep my opinions to myself Doctor, I have the right to put voice to what it is I am thinking." The Vulcan answered, shaking his head a little, his tone taking on the barest trace of attitude, it was noticeable for a Vulcan anyway. At the glare Bones gave him, Spock rose both eyebrows and took a step back. It was that point that Bones snapped at him to get the anti toxins and the Vulcan retrieved it swiftly, his heart rate quickening the slightest bit. He watched as Bones operated and then the patient seemed to be fine

"I am merely trying to help. Giving you the correct information. I am sorry Doctor, but your methods are inadequate." A ghost of a smirk played on the Vulcan's thin lips and he raised his chin a little, oh he looked might cocky at that point, considering if he hadn't been there to offer his assistance, the patient could have died.

Any other day in any other circumstance, Bones would have been able to take Spock's sarcastic handicap with far more than the recommended dosage of salt; but here? With a patient this critical?
Call the old physician crazy, but he swore the Vulcan wasn't just being uncooperative but infact, was giving him lip. But seeing as the vitals were spiking so violently, McCoy had to take the opportunity to prioritise and, for the moment, brush Spock aside "Considering that a man is dying on this very table, Spock, I wouldn't consider you pointing out the flaws in my practice to be of any particular use," he stated as calmly as he could, though pulling the oxygen tank a little more forcefully than was probably necessary back towards the ailing crewman "Now unless you have any surgical expertise or, at the least, any bedside manner to offer this poor fool, would you kindly keep your snide remarks to yourself?"

Spock was starting to think that Bones really wasn't going to take his advice, and the Vulcan only clucked his tongue again in response. "I believe I shall leave you to perform your ...mediocre medical practice." he answered and turned on his heel, his hands firmly behind his back, "If you require my assistance, and I believe that you will, considering how ....well things are going here- I shall be giving my assistance to the Bridge." he informed, that insufferable smirk still etched on his pale face and he walked out the room and along the Enterprise hall to the Bridge where the Captain was sat talking with Mr. Sulu about the next course.

Three or so hours passed by and Spock remained at his station before then leaving the bridge to head to his private quarters, a small rest wouldn't go amiss. And the Captain had given him permission to do so. It was then that Spock happened upon Doctor McCoy leaving the med bay. Spock had caught word that the patient was recovering well.

"I see your inadequate methods came in useful after all. Congratulations." Spock said and then raised his chin, attitude in his facade. "Of course, Vulcan remedies would have secured the patient in approximately half the time." he added, tone snide before then tilting his head. "Excuse me." he then made his way past the Doctor slowly to continue on to his quarters.

"Hold on there a moment, Spock," McCoy spoke through tightening lips, turning calmly as he served to pause the second officer's stride "I'd like to have a private word with you regarding your conduct in the medical bay this afternoon."

Now, Leonard McCoy had never considered himself a petty man, he and Spock had traded plenty of words over logic and reason a thousand times over on their mission so he liked to think that he'd developed a thick enough skin against any spur of the moment jab the Vulcan would often take but on this matter, well, he couldn't quite keep the ire from his tone nor his furrowing brow "I believe you were rather unprofessional while I was dealing with the crewman. Insubordinate, infact."

Spock cocked a brow and nodded his head, "Very well Doctor." he answered and then eyed him carefully, what could this man possibly want, he felt everything he had said before had been in order, and correct. "I do not feel that there is an issue Doctor, I acted with the utmost professionalism." he countered, "You were doing your job incorrectly, I had to put forth my opinions. My opinions were valid."

He stepped inside a secluded room with Bones. "I cannot help it, if your practice is inferior to that of Vulcan." he said, smirking a little. "Now, please, may I continue to my quarters."

"No, you may not continue to your quarters, not until you and I get this matter out of the way!" The doctor reprimanded sharply, closing the door firmly behind them if only for the mildest point of emphasis before circling back on the Vulcan in what could only be described as unbridled irritation "First of all Spock, I'd like to know what, exactly, makes you think you're qualified to dictate to me the rights and wrongs of medical practice? Last time I checked you were the crew's 'Science Officer'." he caught Spock in a stern gaze, turning a distasteful look at the officer's tone of voice before carrying on "And while you're at it, how's about reigning that bad attitude of your's in? It's not exactly fitting of the ship's second in command to trounce around like a stubborn five year old, especially in the interest of your so-called 'professionalism'."

"I fail to see why my opinions on medical subjects are not valid, I have observed many medical practices on Vulcan and I have noted them to be very effective, the practice that humans use is inferior and atrocious compared to that of Vulcan." Spock explained, folding his arms across his chest. "My conclusion is well, Doctor. You are clearly not properly educated in medical practice, I am sure if you study the Vulcan way, it would become quite useful to you. ...That is if your under developed human brain can grasp the knowledge."

Spock then frowned, "I do not believe I have been emulating a child, and my station does nothing to retract the validation from my argument."

"Believe it or not Spock, it does!" Bones found himself snapping before he could truly help it, but he clenched his teeth and bit it back if only for the moment. Spock's nerve was infuriating, no question about that, but he doubted he'd get very far trying to get into a shouting match with the alien. No, no infact that wouldn't do at all.
Pinching the bridge of his nose, McCoy let out a frustrated breath before continuing "What I mean is; as the chief science officer you are technically no more qualified to comment on my work as I am to instruct you to fly us into the nearest solar flare--" he raised a finger up to halt any snide remark the Vulcan may have in store "And before you start, that's what's called a metaphor. It's a remarkable human phenomenon, much like anatomy infact!" the doctor squared himself as he took a step towards Spock "If you'd have held your tongue long to consider why I practice the way I do, maybe you'd realise that some human methods work almost exclusively on human patients, that procedure required a specific set of drugs to combat the reaction and stabilise his condition," Bones' lips thinned in pause "But you didn't stop to consider that, did you? Instead you saw fit to follow me into the medical bay for nothing more than a grotesque display of childishness. Your attitude in that emergency was atrocious, Spock, even for a Vulcan! And I think its' high-time you got a grip on it before I do."
